I've been building model cars since I was very young and still do. When I had my hobby shop, I got interested in die cast metal vehicles. Most are in 1:18th scale but there are a few in 1:24th, 1:43rd, etc. When I shut down my business, I kept a few of these cars for my own collection and I buy some from time to time.

1918 Cast Iron Truck ~

This was probably the first "die cast" metal scale model. This old stake bed truck was a kid's toy around 1918. No wonder they lasted so long.

1948 Chevy Pickup ~

My wife loves the old Chevy pickup trucks and she has collected a lot of the models and other things with pictures of them. She saw this at Hobby Lobby and wanted it but wouldn't pay the $50 price. So I bought it for her and found out it was on sale for $30.

The bed side rails are actually made of wood.

The truck measures 17' long x 8' wide x 10' tall. It's a big 'un.

It came with two fridge magnets to use as door signs. Good idea!

The truck is built really solid. Surprised me.

The tires are metal also. It is complete with side mirrors and even door handles. But no interior other than the steering wheel.

1:24th scale 1956 Ford Thunderbird with Continental Kit ~

This was an older die cast car that I got during my travels. The top was missing.

Elvis had one. But he had a real one.

1940 Gendron Texaco Pedal Car Wreaker ~

This is a limited edition bank. It came with a Certificate of Authenticity.

I remember the real ones when I was a kid. They looked just like this.

This thing is really cool. It came with all kinds of stuff.

-

It has pedals just like the real one and they actually work.

-

The hood opens.

There's a wired engine in it.

If you need to work on the engine, simply open the rear door with the Texaco sign on it.

Inside there are tools and a trouble light.

The trouble light hooks up under the engine hood.

-

There's a wrench in the tool compartment too. For what, I don't know.

There's also a tool box on the bed of the truck.

The boom moves around.

-

Under the seat is a battery compartment. The batteries are for the head and tail lights plus the red light on the hood and the trouble light. They all work.

1947 Cadillac Convertible ~

Die cast cars convertibles with their tops up are seen too often. This was a commemerative for something or other. The entire body and othe pieces are gold plated. When I closed my hobby shop in 1999, I saved all of the gold plated cars.

Early 1950s Toy Truck ~

I bought this old tow truck off of eBay several years ago. I actually got it for 50c. The boom is missing but it's still a cool old toy truck.

Oldtime Gas Pumps ~

This is the stock that I had left when I closed my hobby shop in 1999. They are 1:16th scale. To keep them dust-free, I took my wife's old round fist tank that she never used and am using it for a display case. It has a light which makes it even better.

Antique Vintage Cast Iron Beer Wagon ~

This isn't really a die cast car but it's pretty cool. It's an old cast iron toy beer wagon. It dates to 1890-1900. It is close to 1:18th scale. I don't think it was ever played with as the condition is excellent and all the barrels are still there.

It has an eight team of horses. The umbrella, driver and his dog are intact. These are all pieces that are removable the same as the barrels. It's weird to get something this old that is so complete.

The really weird thing is that it only cost me $35.00. They originally wanted $75.00.
